Gaintus 2011

Heretat Montrubí

Heretat MontRubí’s Gaintus (100%) Sumoll 2011 is testament to the estate’s dedication to rediscovering and helping to save a great indigenous variety, which is now becoming increasingly popular.

Sumoll’s trademark unique rusticity and fresh acidity from high altitude fruit (grown at 800-900 metres) come through in the 2011 vintage which was aged for 14 months in the cellar and 24 months in bottle. Production is limited to just 2,500 bottles, of which each bottle is numbered.

Heretat Mont Rubí (HMR) is a family-run winery (established in 1984) surrounded by Mediterranean pine forests, and situated in the small town of Font-Rubí in the west of the Penedès.

The family own over 30 hectares of vineyards at altitudes of between 500-800 metres and champion/ have planted indigenous varietals such as Garnacha, Xarel·lo, Parellada and Samsó and (the nigh-on extinct) Sumoll, being worked under the guidance of the talented winemaker Josep Queralt.

Tasting Note

Intense purple hue. The nose boasts hints of balsamic, black fruits and cherries, spice, mineral notes and delicate toasty flavours which flow onto the palate. Great length and dimension with hints of chocolate and coffee on the finish.
